Today, July 27, 2009, the 9th State of the Nation Address or SONA of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been delivered fully in National Television and also on radios and online video streaming.
The 9th State of the Nation Address or SONA of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is one of the most anticipated State of the Nation Address or SONA. The Filipino People, especially those who are in Manila, gathered up to go against the delivery of the said speech because she might say things that is a lie and also say something about the latest Constituent Assembly that she is proposing to the Congress which many beg to disagree with it.
Some of the Congressmen are planning to boycott the said event for her to realize that no one is interested to listen about her non-sense statements that would only cause confusion and chaos to the Filipino People. Also some of the Senators are planning to do the same thing. They also think that this event doesn’t mean anything since she has nothing more to say to the public.
Eleven Senators had chosen not to attend one of the most anticipated and important political affair of the year. But even with these absences the speech was still fully delivered to the public. Senators who were absent thinks that their prevailing presence could be a chance for the allies of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to file an instant Constituent Assembly and submit amendments concerning the extension or cancellation of term limits.
Most of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army gathered up to make the said event successful since it would be the last report of the Pesident about the current situation and improvements of the Philippine in every field where utmost concern should be given. Even though people are raging against the State of the Nation Address or SONA, it has been successful perhaps.
In her statement, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo didn’t state that she would extent her term at the end of her appointment as the President of the Repulic of the Philippines. She stated, “I have never expressed the desire to extend myself beyond my term”.
The President’s speech was expected to talk about political succession but people’s expectation did not came up and as a surprise the political succession issue was only mentioned once.
Some of the Political Analyst said that her last speech did not seem to be a farewell speech for her last term of being the President of the Republic of the Philippines which they think that it sounded like she really wants to extend her term and become the leader for another term.
This really might not be the last State of the Nation Address or SONA of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo but on the point of view of a student this would be her last because she didn’t mention so much about the Constituent Assembly and most likely she is ready to step down once her term is over.
